Isänmaan yö – Vastarintaa ja uutiskuvia postikorteilla

Isänmaan yö - Vastarintaa ja uutiskuvia postikorteilla (Fatherlands Night - Resistance and News Photos on Postcards) looks at the birth of a popular photo that reached a large audience. At the end of the 1890s, millions of cheap photo postcards became available to everyone and they began to be used effectively in communication. They had a special position in the distribution of news pictures and propaganda at a time when pictures were not printed in daily newspapers.
The book provides an overview of the birth stages of familiar and everyday picture postcards from a new perspective. Instead of presenting landscape sites or topics related to collecting, the neglected cultural history of photo postcards and their enormous importance in the development of photography will be highlighted.
At the beginning of the 20th century, photo postcards showed us what the world looked like. And what Finland looked like, or how it was wanted to look like. They fuel dreams of independence and visualize the news topics of the day. With the help of picture postcards, photographs became firmly attached to our lives and began to influence our opinions.
The photo got us in a tight grip.
