Bertel Strömmer's (1890-1962) influence on Tampere's cityscape is unparalleled. Many of the city's landmarks were born on his desk, such as Hotel Tammer, Tuulensuu, Tempontalo, Tammerkoski power plants, many factory buildings, schools, churches and town plans. Strömmer's career lasted almost 50 years. As Tampere's city architect, he worked for an unbeatable 35 years and, in addition to that, also ran his own private design office until his death. About 300 of its plans were completed in Tampere.
Bertel Strömmer – Tampere's architect also presents Strömmer's designs for architectural competitions and his design, from the magnificent interiors of Tammer, Tuulensuu cinema and the labor hall Konsu to Tampere's ev. lut. up to the parish hearse. The book includes a lot of his original drawings and photographs he took himself. The work is complemented by detailed lists of plans made for Tampere and elsewhere in Finland.
